What Crew Members Say About Med-Arctic

On March 23, 2024, a critical medevac operation was initiated for a crew member aboard the 'Med Arctic', which was anchored near Huelva. Following a consultation with the Turkish radio medical center, the ship's captain urgently sought assistance. Salvamento Marítimo promptly dispatched the SAR helicopter Helimer 223 to the scene. The helicopter successfully hoisted the crew member before swiftly transporting him to Jerez airport, where a waiting ambulance was ready to transfer him to the hospital for further medical care.

On November 1, the middle lock of Ijmuiden sustained damage when the vessel "Med Arctic" collided with it. Initially reported as damage to one of the two adjacent revolving gates, it has now been confirmed that both gates are misaligned. Rijkswaterstaat announced that from November 4 to November 5, reserve gates, which are maintained on-site, will be installed to replace the damaged ones. A floating crane arrived on the night of November 3 to assist in the removal of the impaired gates. As a result, vessels will be diverted to the Northern lock, potentially leading to increased waiting times. The "Med Arctic" was relocated to the outer side of the central lock on November 2 after Rijkswaterstaat secured a commitment from the ship's owner to cover the repair costs.
