On July 17, 2020, the tanker 'Marbabu' docked in Megara after completing its journey from Ceyha and unloading a cargo of crude oil. A concerning situation arose on July 26 when one crew member reported having a fever. A medical team swiftly boarded the vessel to conduct an examination and uncovered a significant issue: 16 out of the 25 crew members had tested positive for the coronavirus. In response to the outbreak, the tanker was subsequently relocated to the Piraeus anchorage. All crew members were evacuated to the shore for further care, with eight Indian and eight Filipino sailors being admitted to the hospital for treatment. The remaining crew members were placed in a hotel for quarantine. Following the incident, plans were set in motion for a thorough disinfection of the tanker, after which it would be staffed with a new team of crew members.
