Disabled Ferry Rescued Near Orosei Gulf

Jan 10, 2018 13:20

On January 9, 2018, the 'Eurocargo Istanbul' encountered engine difficulties, causing the vessel to anchor off the beautiful Orosei Gulf. To provide assistance, the tug 'Falisca' was dispatched from Trapani, arriving on the scene to tow the incapacitated ferry. The 'Eurocargo Istanbul,' which was transporting trailers and had 27 crew members aboard, was unable to navigate on its own. After being successfully towed, the ferry was directed to Cagliari. Once repairs were completed, the 'Eurocargo Istanbul' resumed its journey, making a scheduled stop in Livorno, where it arrived on January 15 at 8:20 a.m., before continuing onward to Genoa.

Eurocargo Istanbul Collides with BBC Bahrain in Livorno

Feb 01, 2016 11:05

In a notable maritime incident, the ferry 'Eurocargo Istanbul' collided with the anchored cargo vessel 'BBC Bahrain' during the early hours of January 31, 2016, while at the outer anchorage of Livorno. The ferry was traveling to Livorno from Cagliari when it experienced engine issues on January 30 at approximately 11:30 p.m., about 11 miles from the port. Subsequently, it requested assistance from tugboats, leading to the intervention of four tugs. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions characterized by high winds, the towline snapped at 4:10 a.m., causing the ferry to drift and make contact with the cargo ship at 4:37 a.m. Fortunately, the collision resulted in minimal damage. However, to ensure safety, the ferry remained anchored in the outer roads as docking was deemed unsafe amid the ongoing bad weather conditions. A Coastguard patrol boat monitored the situation closely. The ferry was finally able to dock at Terminal Alto Fondale in Livorno on February 1 at 11 a.m., followed by the 'BBC Bahrain,' which completed docking at 11:45 p.m. For further visuals and details, you can check the Italian reports with photos available at the following links: [Quilivorno](http://www.quilivorno.it/collisione-fra-due-navi-in-rada/), [Il Tirreno](http://iltirreno.gelocal.it/livorno/cronaca/2016/01/31/news/lieve-collisione-tra-2-navi-in-rada-livorno-1.12872167?refresh_ce), and [La Nazione](http://www.lanazione.it/livorno/collisione-porto-1.1690293).
