Milestone LNG Bunkering Operation Achieved in Cartagena, Spain
On March 15, 2023, Cartagena marked a significant milestone in the maritime industry with Spain's most extensive LNG bunkering operation to date. The operation took place at the strategic east coast port, where the 15,100 dwt Canadian product tanker, Mia Desgagnes, successfully received 425 m3 (approximately 190 tonnes) of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This transfer was carried out through 10 road tanker loads sourced from the nearby Enagás-operated LNG receiving terminal. Notably, the LNG was supplied by Repsol in partnership with Molgas Energia, showcasing a collaborative effort supported by both Enagás and the local port authority. For this successful truck-to-ship (TTS) transfer, the Mia Desgagnes was securely moored at a specially designed jetty optimized for LNG bunkering and small-scale LNG operations. The Mia Desgagnes represents the second vessel of a four-tanker series currently under construction at the Besiktas yard in Turkey for Canada’s Groupe Desgagnés. The series includes the asphalt tanker, Damia Desgagnes, and three dual-fuel IMO 2 chemical/product tankers, with Mia Desgagnes being a prominent member of this innovative fleet.
