On the night of August 3, 2018, the US Coast Guard conducted a critical medical evacuation of a 44-year-old crewmember aboard the tanker Minerva Grace, located close to Long Beach, New York. At approximately 10:30 PM, watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector New York command center received an urgent call reporting that a crew member was experiencing severe abdominal pains and required immediate medical assistance. Following consultation with the flight surgeon, the decision was made to proceed with the medevac. An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City swiftly arrived on the scene in an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, successfully hoisting the afflicted crewmember and transporting him to John F. Kennedy International Airport. From there, he was transferred by EMS to Jamaica Hospital in Queens, New York, for further treatment.
