In a decisive move against Russia's ongoing military actions, the European Union ratified a fresh sanctions package on December 16, 2024, during the Foreign Affairs Council meeting. This latest round of sanctions has resulted in the addition of 52 vessels, notably including the 'Moskovsky Prospect', to a growing list of entities identified as contributors to the war effort. The sanctions primarily target ships that are believed to be circumventing the oil price cap enforced by Western nations, facilitating arms deliveries, and transporting stolen grain. With this latest update, the total count of vessels sanctioned by the EU has now reached 79, underscoring the bloc's commitment to countering Russian aggression. Many of these newly sanctioned ships are engaged in the transportation of Russian oil and military supplies, highlighting the EU's strategic approach to disrupt key supply chains. Additionally, the sanctions package also implicates 54 individuals and 30 entities, some from nations like China and North Korea, which are accused of providing dual-use items that bolster Russia’s military capabilities. This includes the targeting of two senior officials from North Korea and seven individuals and companies from China. The overarching goal of this sanctions initiative is to elevate the operational costs for Russia significantly by prohibiting access to EU ports and limiting access to critical maritime services.

A significant charter agreement has been established for the transportation of 100,000 tons of dirty cargo from Ust Luga to the United Kingdom and continental destinations. This deal, finalized on October 9, 2023, carries a Worldscale rate of 80, facilitating efficient maritime trade in the bustling shipping lanes.

On August 28, the Sovcomflot-operated tanker Moskovsky Prospect played a vital role in a rescue mission off the Spanish coastline. According to a press release from the company, the vigilant crew aboard spotted a small vessel overcrowded with individuals in distress and promptly alerted the Spanish coast guard. They remained on the scene until local rescue teams arrived, successfully facilitating the rescue operation. Following this commendable effort, the Moskovsky Prospect continued its journey to its planned destination.
