Coast Guard Rescues Two Crew Members from Tanker Near Galveston
On July 18, 2021, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully conducted a medevac operation involving two crew members from the tanker 'Monterey', located about 10 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas. At approximately 9:25 a.m., the anchored vessel alerted the Coast Guard Houston-Galveston watchstanders about the medical emergencies affecting two crew members, aged 26 and 48, who were experiencing breathing difficulties. After consulting with the duty flight surgeon, the decision was made to perform a medevac. A crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston launched a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium to respond to the situation. Upon arriving at the Galveston Fairway Anchorage, the team safely boarded the distressed crew members and subsequently transported them to the dock for a seamless hand-off to emergency medical services. The personnel from EMS promptly took over and transported the men to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where they were reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
