The maritime community is rallying as efforts intensify to locate 11 individuals missing after a tragic collision between the reefer 'Montelaura' and the local fishing vessel 'Al Akhawayan'. The incident occurred on the night of September 26, 2019, approximately 35 nautical miles off the coast of Dakhla, as the 'Montelaura' was making its way from Caraminal to Gabon. Out of the 16 crew members aboard the 'Al Akhawayan', five were successfully rescued while the search continues for the remaining 11. A Search and Rescue (SAR) operation is currently active to locate those still unaccounted for. Following the collision, the 'Montelaura' safely docked at Dakhla anchorage on September 27, 2019, at 9:15 AM.

Upon receiving the distress signal, the local MRCC swiftly contacted the 'Montelaura', a vessel departing from Mindelo, which was in proximity to the yacht's location. The 'Montelaura' promptly altered its course and reached the stranded sailors, ensuring their safe transport to Ribeira, with an estimated time of arrival on April 25. This operation highlights the critical importance of effective communication and teamwork in emergency maritime situations.
