The 'MSC Meraviglia' is set to embark on a Bahamas cruise beginning November 30 from New York, but the vessel will operate under altered schedules due to necessary propulsion maintenance. On November 24, guests were informed that changes would affect key port arrivals during their trip. Specifically, the ship's anticipated arrival at Port Canaveral on December 2 has been delayed from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., prompting the cancellation of all scheduled excursions due to the limited time available for exploration. Similarly, the visit to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve on December 3 has been rescheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; however, the stay has been extended until 8:30 p.m. Notably, the ship's calls to Nassau and its planned return to New York on December 7 remain unaffected. This is not the first instance of propulsion-related difficulties for the 'MSC Meraviglia', as a prior incident in May resulted in an itinerary cancellation needing underwater repairs executed by divers in Portland, Maine. MSC Cruises is offering compensation to impacted guests, automatically issuing refunds for cancelled excursions and providing $100 in onboard credit for each passenger, with a maximum of $200 credit per cabin. Earlier this year, the 'MSC Meraviglia' had also undergone propeller blade replacements due to similar maintenance issues.

The MSC Meraviglia recently encountered technical difficulties, leading to the cancellation of a planned cruise in mid-April, with repairs necessary to address a mechanical issue affecting its cruising capabilities. Originally scheduled to embark from New York City on May 11, 2025, the cruise was canceled to ensure the vessel could be adequately serviced. The seven-night itinerary, which would have included stops in the picturesque Bahamas and Florida, would have seen the Meraviglia sailing from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, with highlights including Port Canaveral, Nassau, and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. However, due to the mechanical problem, the ship was pulled from service and redirected to Portland, Maine for repairs by specialized teams. Importantly, the mechanical issue did not compromise the safety of either the crew or the passengers onboard. Following the completion of repairs, the MSC Meraviglia departed Portland on May 17, 2025, and successfully resumed its voyages the very next day, May 18. The ship is now back on its regular schedule, offering guests a week-long cruise experience through the stunning Bahamas and Florida. This cruise season, the MSC Meraviglia will continue to provide year-round seven-night itineraries from New York City, making stops at sought-after destinations including Florida, the Bahamas, and Bermuda.

An investigation is currently underway by the NOAA’s Office of Law Enforcement following the discovery of a deceased whale embedded in the bow of the MSC Meraviglia as it neared Brooklyn, New York, on May 4, 2024. The sei whale, measuring approximately 44 feet in length, was subsequently towed to Sandy Hook, New Jersey, where a necropsy was performed. According to NOAA Fisheries spokesperson Andrea Gomez, the examination conducted on May 7 revealed several concerning findings, including fractures in the whale's right flipper and signs of tissue trauma in the shoulder blade area. The necropsy also noted that the whale's gastrointestinal tract was filled with food, indicating a recent feeding. The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society, which is leading the response to this incident, identified the whale as a mature female, underscoring the importance of the case for marine conservation efforts.

In a proactive response to inclement weather, the MSC Meraviglia has changed its itinerary, exchanging its anticipated Florida and Bahamas voyage for a brief stay in Boston. Having departed from New York, the cruise ship arrived in Boston on December 17, 2023. Meteorological reports indicate the presence of heavy rainfall and strong winds set to impact Florida and the Bahamas over the next several days. The MSC Meraviglia is scheduled to remain in the Boston harbor until December 19, after which it will continue its journey to Portland, Maine, and Saint John, Newfoundland, before making its way back to New York.
