Working Conditions Aboard the N35

In a decisive move to uphold the labor rights of its mariners, the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) has initiated actions through its General Directorate of Seafarers (DGGM) concerning the crew of the 'N 35'. This maritime vessel was detained by the Navy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on June 13, 2025, during an operation where it was reportedly conducting scientific surveys in waters claimed by Venezuela. The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (BNAF), under the control of the Chavista regime, intercepted the vessel due to suspicions of espionage linked to its activities, leading to the crew's preventive custody. As part of its commitment to the welfare of the nine crew members aboard, the DGGM has been vigilant in safeguarding their labor rights. The AMP has urged the ship owners to meet their obligations to the crew and has closely monitored the actions taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIRE) throughout this situation. Notably, the Department of Maritime Labor Affairs within the DGGM has secured a court appearance enabling MIRE to connect with the family members of a Panamanian crew member, along with Vladimir Small Ortiz, the national coordinator of the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF). Operators of the 'N 35' have confirmed the provision of legal support for the detained crew, coinciding with the recent reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Panama on June 19, which is set to be effective this week as personnel return to their roles. The PMA expresses optimism that the normalization of these international relations will lead to clearer official communication regarding the proceedings against the crew. As the flag state for the 'N 35', the Republic of Panama is resolutely dedicated to upholding both national and international regulations that protect the labor and social rights of all seafarers aboard.

Dreifa Energy Limited, a budding force in the LNG sector, has announced a significant step forward by agreeing to purchase the platform supply vessel Blue Betria from Blue Star Line A/S. Originally constructed in 1983 and undergoing substantial upgrades in 2015, the Blue Betria is currently active in the North Sea. As part of Dreifa Energy's innovative strategy, the company is focusing on the development of mid-scale floating regasification terminals to facilitate LNG imports. This concept involves a floating regasification unit (FRU) equipped with essential regasification systems alongside a standard LNG carrier that serves as floating storage. With its spacious deck and well-maintained structure, the Blue Betria is poised for conversion into an FRU, aligning perfectly with Dreifa Energy’s mission to deliver agile and cost-effective solutions to LNG importers, aiming for a promising initial capacity of up to 1.5 million tons per annum (mtpa).
