On the night of September 1, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, the bunker tanker 'Naoussa' encountered a significant mechanical issue, leading to a loss of control around 11 nautical miles south of Cape Sounion (Latitude: 37.4667, Longitude: 24.0034). With a crew of 11 Greek nationals on board, the situation prompted immediate action. Early on September 2, the tugboats 'Pantanassa' (IMO: 9332561) and 'Captain Giannis P' (IMO: 9756523) were dispatched to assist the stricken vessel. By around 1:30 AM, the tugs successfully had the 'Naoussa' in tow, guiding it toward Elefsina Anchorage. The tanker was safely moored at coordinates 38° 02' N, 023° 32' E. Subsequent to the incident, the Elefsina Central Port Authority imposed a sailing ban on the 'Naoussa' until necessary repairs are completed, along with the provision of a seaworthiness certificate from the overseeing classification society. As of September 5, the 'Naoussa' remains secured at its mooring, awaiting repairs.
