Maritime Blackout Incident in Olbia
On June 19, 2019, at 7:15 p.m., the cargo vessel 'Eurocargo Napoli' experienced a significant operational failure shortly after departing from the Cocciani jetty of Olbia's industrial port. En route to Livorno, the ship encountered a total blackout, leading to a complete loss of engine power. The Maritime Directorate of Olbia swiftly responded by dispatching a Coast Guard patrol boat along with the tug 'Scatenato' from Compagnia Onorato to assist in the emergency. After the engines partially regained functionality, 'Eurocargo Napoli' was safely maneuvered out of the shipping channel and escorted to an anchorage within the Gulf of Olbia for temporary holding. This action was taken while awaiting thorough inspections by the Maritime Directorate and RINA. At the time of the incident, the vessel was carrying one truck driver in addition to its crew. The well-coordinated response was managed by the Olbia maritime authority. Following the inspections, the ship successfully arrived at its destination, docking at the Terminal Darsene Toscana in Livorno on June 20. Engine Trouble Strikes Eurocargo Napoli Near Tavolara Island
On December 4, the Eurocargo Napoli encountered an engine malfunction while navigating close to Tavolara Island shortly after departing from Olbia, heading towards Cagliari around noon. The vessel promptly alerted maritime authorities about the issue and requested to anchor off Golfo Aranci, located to the north of Olbia. The request was approved, and the crew worked diligently to address the engine failure. Despite successful repairs, the Port Authority of Olbia mandated that the ferry proceed to Golfo Aranci, dispatching two tugboats along with local pilots and a mooring crew for assistance. By 11 p.m., the Eurocargo Napoli was successfully towed to the southern pier of Golfo Aranci. The ferry remained docked in Golfo Aranci until it ultimately resumed its voyage from Cagliari on December 6.
