Russian Crude Tankers Shift Their Destination Ports
Recent developments have seen two tankers, the 'Cosmo Sail' and 'Kartha', both transporting Russian Urals crude, alter their intended destination from Sikka. Initially, the 'Cosmo Sail' had projected an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of December 29, 2025, at Sikka, which is directly linked to the Jamnagar refinery operated by Reliance Industries Ltd. However, shortly thereafter, the vessel redirected its course to an adjacent single-point mooring facility owned by Bharat Petroleum Corporation. Meanwhile, the 'Kartha', which had announced Sikka as its endpoint on December 31, 2025, was redirected to the nearby Vadinar port and successfully delivered its cargo to the Rosneft Nayara Refinery on January 6, 2026. Notably, at least three tankers carrying approximately 2.2 million barrels of Urals crude had initially listed Reliance's facilities as their destination. On January 6, Reliance Industries firmly stated that reports regarding oil shipments to Jamnagar were entirely false. The refinery has not received any Russian crude oil deliveries over the past three weeks and has no anticipated shipments for January. Additionally, the third tanker, the 'Vokki', was reported to be sailing off Oman but was still indicating Sikka as its intended destination.
Singapore Court Orders Seizure of Italian Vessels Over Debt Issues
In a significant legal ruling this month, Singapore's Supreme Court has authorized the detention of two Italian vessels—the 109,000-deadweight tonne crude oil tanker, Adele Marina Rizzo, and the 178,000-tonne dry bulk carrier, Cavaliere Grazia Bottiglieri. This action is a response to unpaid debts amounting to approximately $4.7 million owed to maritime companies Fratelli Cosulich Hong Kong Limited and Madeira Lda. Kevin Kwek, a lawyer from Legal Solutions LLC based in Singapore, confirmed the vessels have been seized as collateral and stated, 'There is an outstanding debt from the owners… We are currently in talks (with RBD Armatori).' The legal measures highlight the ongoing challenges in the maritime industry regarding financial obligations and debt recovery.
