Nave Qquinox Experiences Engine Failure in Istanbul Strait

On January 23, 2018, the tanker Nave Qquinox encountered a critical engine malfunction while navigating through the Istanbul Strait at Kumkapi Point. The vessel was laden and on course from Bourgas to Malta when the engine failure occurred at approximately 05:30 a.m., as it was nearing the conclusion of its passage through the strait. Swift response was initiated with the arrival of tugs Kurtarma-3 and Kurtarma-7, which successfully secured the tanker and initiated a towage operation to the Istanbul tanker anchorage. By 11 a.m., Nave Qquinox was safely anchored at the designated area. In light of the incident, the Harbour Master has opened an investigation, halting the ship's departure until all necessary permanent repairs are confirmed complete. Additionally, a fine will be imposed for violating safe passage navigation regulations. After completing the repairs, Nave Qquinox departed from anchorage on February 1 at 12:30 p.m., continuing its journey towards Marsaxlokk with an estimated time of arrival set for February 4 at 5 a.m.
