On March 24, 2026, a dramatic medical evacuation unfolded off the coast of Ho Chi Minh City when the Vietnamese Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) worked in tandem with the Vietnamese Coastal Information Station. The situation arose when a 57-year-old Filipino crew member aboard the 'Navig8 Wolf', which was traveling from South Korea to Singapore, sustained serious skin injuries to the right side of his head, along with intense pain and significant visual impairment in his right eye, on March 23. The vessel, positioned approximately 280 nautical miles from Ho Chi Minh City, faced a dire situation as the captain urgently sought assistance to transport the injured crew member to shore for necessary medical treatment. In response, the ship was instructed to alter its course towards the coast to aid the rescue efforts. Following the authorities' directives, the rescue vessel 'SAR 413', accompanied by a medical team dispatched from Vung Tau General Hospital, set sail from Phuoc Thang district at 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, the medical team promptly provided first aid and facilitated the transfer of the injured individual onto the rescue vessel. The crew member was then transported back to the shore and safely handed over to relevant authorities and representatives from the shipowner by 4:30 p.m., ensuring he received the critical care he needed at a nearby medical facility.
