Bulk Carrier 'Destiny' Runs Aground in Sienfuegos Bay
On May 29, 2018, the bulk carrier 'Destiny' encountered trouble when it ran aground at the entrance of the shipping canal while making its way into Sienfuegos Bay, located near Jagua. The vessel had made its way to Cuban waters after departing from Ho Chi Minh port on April 3, carrying an impressive 28,000 tons of rice. Fortunately, divers were promptly dispatched to investigate the vessel's underwater hull, and thankfully, no leaks were found. It was reported that strong currents, exacerbated by flooding following storm Alberto, had swept the ship off course. Fortunately, the 'Destiny' was successfully refloated on the night of May 30 and guided back to a safe anchorage within Sienfuegos Bay with the aid of tugboats. By June 2, the bulk carrier managed to berth at Cienfuegos, marking the resolution of this maritime incident.
