What Crew Members Say About Nord-Taurus

Early in the morning on January 21, 2018, at approximately 4:25 a.m., a significant maritime incident occurred at the Northern Steenbank anchorage off the Dutch coastline. The Dutch pilot vessel, "Pollux," collided with the bulk carrier "Nord Taurus" while navigating the busy shipping lanes. The "Nord Taurus" had recently completed a pilot transfer and was proceeding at a speed of about ten knots. The vessel intended to pass the pilot boat, which was anchored north of Westkapelle. However, the maneuver went awry, and the "Nord Taurus" struck the "Pollux" at the bow. Despite sustaining substantial damage from the impact, the crew of the "Pollux" demonstrated remarkable seamanship, managing to return under their own power to the port of Flushing. The pilot boat successfully docked in the outer port around 1:45 p.m. on the same day. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the crew members of either vessel. The "Nord Taurus," which had departed from Terneuzen on January 20 at approximately 11:30 p.m., was en route to Murmansk, with an estimated arrival set for January 27. Following the incident, the "Polaris" took over operations from the "Pollux," which will be undergoing necessary repairs for its damaged hull and wheelhouse.
