In a significant move for the fishing industry, Icelandic company Sildarvinnslan (SVN) has finalized the sale of its trawler, the 'Bardi NK 120', to a Murmansk-based firm in Russia. The 'Bardi', which commenced its operations with SVN in 2002, was initially equipped for fresh cod catch and later retrofitted for on-board freezing of fish. However, after being decommissioned in 2016, it was listed for sale after its fishing equipment was removed. Following the acquisition, Captain Rinat Ulyukaev plans to transport the vessel to Kirkenes for the installation of shrimp-fishing gear before making its way to Murmansk. The 'Bardi' is set to operate in the northern oceans, enhancing the local fishing fleet. Concurrently, SVN has announced plans to construct four new trawlers, intended to replace the aging 'Bardi', as well as the 'Gullver'—which was integrated into SVN after its merger with Gullberg in 2016—and the 'estmannaey' and 'Bergey', operated by its subsidiary, Bergur-Huginn.
