On August 27, 2018, at approximately 2 a.m., the oil tanker Nordic Sund encountered a critical issue with its variable pitch propeller control system while navigating through the Humber River estuary, situated southeast of Hull at coordinates 53 35.5 N 000 02.16 E. The vessel was undertaking a voyage from Kingston to Southampton when the fault occurred. To ensure the ship's safe maneuvering and to guide it to an anchorage, the tugboat Svitzer Valiant (IMO: 9366902) was dispatched for assistance, arriving at the scene by 5:50 a.m. Together, they proceeded toward Hamble. After reaching the Hull anchorage, the pilot safely disembarked, and the Nordic Sund was able to continue its journey following necessary repairs. The new estimated time of arrival in Hamble was adjusted to 11 p.m. on August 28, with the escort tug returning to Immingham thereafter.

On the night of September 5, 2011, a catastrophic explosion occurred aboard the 'Clipper Sund' while it was docked at LBC Tank Terminals in Antwerp. The ignition was triggered by a chemical leak that allowed several substances, including nitric acid, to interact dangerously. This led to a violent explosion that produced a flash of light, resulting in severe injuries to a Filipino worker on site. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the worker ultimately succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Emergency responders, including Antwerp Fire Rescue and a specialized IGS Team for Hazardous Materials, quickly mobilized to assess the situation. They worked alongside the province of Antwerp’s Hazardous Substances consultant (AGS) to analyze the chemical products involved, aiming to identify the source of the leak and safely manage the hazardous material. Fortunately, the explosion did not compromise the integrity of the 'Clipper Sund,' as the incident took place on the ship's deck, resulting in minimal structural damage.
