Eight Suspected Stowaways Apprehended Near Lagos Channel
On July 13, 2024, a vigilant patrol unit from the NNS Beecroft intercepted eight suspected stowaways in two speedboats as they attempted to gain access to the cargo vessel 'Northernlight' while it was navigating the Lagos Channel. The patrol crew caught sight of the would-be stowaways trying to infiltrate the vessel through the rudder compartment. During questioning, five of the suspects revealed their intention was to board the ship in hopes of traveling abroad. The authorities have since turned over the suspects, along with the seized speedboats, to the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Lagos State Port and Marine Command for further investigation and processing.
