In recent days, the Russian fishing trawlers 'Kapelan' and 'Saami' were observed taking refuge in the fjords of North Troms, navigating back and forth on the Ullsfjord for more than 24 hours close to Laukøya. This activity has raised eyebrows, as a total of 10 Russian trawlers are currently seeking shelter in the Troms region, with three of them docked in Tromsø. The scenario appears similar further north, where the Russian trawler 'Yagry' was spotted anchored at Laukøya, east of Arnøya. This influx of trawlers comes on the heels of a yellow weather warning, alerting to strong winds, storm conditions, and high waves. The Norwegian defense officials confirmed that these trawlers were granted permission to seek shelter from the inclement weather, as the authorities permit fishing vessels to find safe havens during stormy conditions. They also reassured the public that there is a comprehensive monitoring system in place for vessels operating along the coast.
