On September 10, 2022, during midday, the Port Authority of Thira received urgent notification regarding a 32-year-old crew member aboard the cruise ship 'Norwegian Jade', which was anchored in Fira Bay. The individual required immediate medical attention and was swiftly evacuated via the vessel 'SI Sstar'. After the transfer, he was taken to the port of Athonius, where an ambulance awaited to transport him to a private clinic for necessary hospitalization. Meanwhile, the Norwegian Jade resumed its planned voyage towards Piraeus.

Impact of COVID-19 on Cruise Itineraries

Feb 21, 2020 09:13

In light of the ongoing challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, Princess Cruise Line has made the decision to cancel five upcoming sailings of the 'Diamond Princess', which has been docked in Yokohama for over two weeks. The cancellations stem from the extended quarantine period for the vessel and the necessary preparations needed to resume operations. Initially, the ship was scheduled to resume service on April 29, coinciding with the start of Japan's Golden Week celebrations. Additionally, cruises aboard the 'Majestic Princess' have faced cancellations through April 2, which include multiple round-trip departures from Keeling, the port serving Taipei. Meanwhile, sailings on the 'Sapphire Princess' have also been discontinued up until October 22, affecting several round trips from Shanghai and other routes from Singapore, Yokohama, and Hong Kong. In a significant operational shift, the 'Sapphire Princess' will now head to Australia six months earlier than intended, with 44 new cruise itineraries set to launch from five major cities, debuting on February 27, 2023. As for itineraries being modified, the 'Queen Elizabeth' will not call at Hong Kong on March 31 or Shanghai on April 4, with alternative ports yet to be confirmed. The 'Queen Mary 2' is also adjusting its voyage from Asia to Australia, adding stops in Darwin from February 24-25 and Yorkneys Knob (near Cairns) on February 29, before reverting to its original route after visiting Airlie Beach. Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ 'Columbus' is also changing its schedule, removing calls at Tianjin (for Beijing) on March 17 and Hong Kong on March 23, opting instead for Chan May in Vietnam. Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the cancellation of the 'Norwegian Jade's departure from Singapore on February 17, and all Asian sailings on the 'Norwegian Spirit' from April 15 to December 7. Following extensive renovations, the 'Norwegian Spirit' will embark on a series of voyages over 17, 20, and 28 days, covering three continents, with sailings from Dubai on March 2 and Cape Town on March 22 before homeporting in Piraeus, Greece, starting April 19. Afterward, it will host a season of seven-day cruises exploring the Greek islands, Turkey, and Israel until November 8. For passengers impacted by these cancellations, options for compensation are available. Guests can choose to cancel their bookings for a full refund or opt to remain on their modified voyages, receiving a 50% credit of their cruise fare. In the case of Holland America Line's 'Westerdam', which was diverted to Sihanoukville, Cambodia, on February 13, the subsequent voyage has been canceled, alongside two additional cruises set to depart on February 29, which included a 14-day Taiwan & Japan itinerary and a 28-day voyage encompassing Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. Affected guests will receive a full refund plus a future cruise credit equal to 50% of the fare paid.
