Ruptured Hose Causes 2,000 Liters of Phosphoric Acid Spill at Saint Malo Port

Oct 22, 2025 13:17

On October 20, 2025, at 5:30 a.m., a significant incident unfolded at the port of Saint Malo involving the 'NQ Rosa' tanker. During the unloading operations, a ruptured hose led to a substantial leakage of approximately 2,000 liters of phosphoric acid. Quick to respond, 24 firefighters from a specialized chemical risks unit were deployed to address the situation at Jacques Cartier Quay. Fortunately, the acid spill was contained mostly by a retention tank, although some splashes reached both the quay and the adjacent basin. A security guard who encountered the hazardous material while conducting rounds required medical attention and was promptly transported to the emergency room. Firefighting efforts concluded by 1 p.m., at which point security perimeters were removed. The phosphoric acid was destined for Phosphea, a subsidiary of the Roullier Group, which later announced that there was no contamination of the surrounding waters and that cleanup operations for the quay were actively in progress. Following the incident, the 'NQ Rosa' continued its journey, departing the same day with an estimated time of arrival in Runcorn on October 22. Tragic Incident at Sea: Crewmember Passes Away Near Dutch Coast

Aug 04, 2011 19:22

On August 3, 2011, a serious medical emergency unfolded aboard the 'Sichem Palace' as the KNRM (Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution) sprang into action. At approximately 6:30 AM, the crew at KNRM Neeltje Jans received an urgent call to assist a sick crew member experiencing severe chest pains while anchored in the Steenbank area, located about 16 miles offshore from the station. By the time the KNRM rescue team arrived, shipboard personnel had already initiated CPR with chest compressions. Utilizing oxygen supplies from both the KNRM lifeboat and the pilot vessel 'Mirfak', rescuers worked diligently to revive the individual. Tragically, upon the arrival of a Coast Guard helicopter and the attending physician, it was determined that the victim had succumbed to their condition. Following coordination with the Coast Guard center and local authorities, the deceased was transported back to the KNRM Neeltje Jans rescue station where the remains were turned over to the police for further proceedings.
