On July 18, 2013, the crew aboard the vessel 'Octaden' conducted a dramatic rescue operation in the South China Sea near Tanjung Sedili Besar, saving 28 individuals, including three women and an eight-month-old baby. The group, all Indonesian nationals, was discovered clinging to their overturned boat approximately 34 nautical miles northeast of Tanjung Sedili Besar around 3 p.m. This daring rescue occurred 12 hours after their vessel capsized amid treacherous currents while they were en route to Batam, Indonesia. The Putrajaya Maritime Rescue Control Centre (MRCC) was alerted by the Octaden crew about the rescue mission they had carried out. In response, the MRCC deployed a rescue ship and several speedboats, manned by 30 officers, to bring the victims back to shore for necessary medical assistance. Tragically, one female victim was found unconscious and ultimately confirmed dead at the jetty. Moreover, seven men from the group are still reported missing, prompting ongoing search and rescue operations to locate them.
