On the morning of December 21, 2014, a critical medical emergency unfolded on the Wester Scheldt near Wielingen when the pilot aboard the tanker 'Bmoar Juno' collapsed and lost consciousness. The KNRM Breskens lifeboat and a Belgian Sea King helicopter were quickly dispatched to the scene for a medical evacuation. The crew of the 'Zeemanshoop' was the first to arrive, promptly boarding the vessel to provide essential first aid using an AED and oxygen. As the situation developed, the pilot boat also assisted in bringing a new pilot on board. Fortunately, by the time the KNRM crew accessed the wheelhouse, the pilot had regained consciousness, and his medical state appeared stable. A decision was made to await the arrival of medical professionals from the Sea King helicopter, which reached the location within 10 minutes. Following an examination by the medical team, it was determined that the pilot needed evacuation via helicopter. Under the supervision of the physician and KNRM crew members, the pilot was carefully transported to the bow of the tanker, where he was hoisted aboard the helicopter along with his support staff. The chopper then rapidly transported him to a hospital in Bruges for further treatment. Meanwhile, the 'Zeemanshoop' efficiently retrieved its equipment and crew, returning to the KNRM station after successfully assisting in this critical medical intervention.
