On January 13, 2020, the 'Oratank', a tanker on its way from Rotterdam to Bordeaux, encountered a significant main engine failure at coordinates 49°50'45.6" N, 003°17'46.5" W. This incident occurred at approximately 07:40 AM. Fortunately, the crew managed to restore functionality, and the vessel resumed its journey at 08:08 AM. The 'Oratank' is now expected to arrive in Bordeaux by January 15.

The tanker 'Oratank' is set to undergo drydocking at a shipyard to address crucial repairs before it can resume normal operations. Divers have identified a crack in the vessel's hull, which has led to water ingress into the ship. Fortunately, the onboard pumps have managed to mitigate the flooding situation. However, due to the lack of suitable shipyards in Greenland, the ship's owner is currently exploring potential locations capable of performing the necessary repairs. As of now, the timeline for 'Oratank's return to Greenland waters remains uncertain. In the interim, the company has arranged for a replacement tanker, although it may take up to a week for it to arrive in Greenland's maritime region.

This critical inspection wrapped up on August 22, 2023, paving the way for decisions regarding the ship's future operations. Given the uncertain timeline for the 'Oratank' to resume its voyage, Polar Oil proactively dispatched the 'Orasila' from southern Greenland to Baffin Bay on a mission to North Greenland. Fortunately, the local villages and towns in northern Greenland have an adequate fuel supply, alleviating concerns over potential shortages for residents following the grounding incident.
