On the morning of April 23, 2016, the vehicle carrier 'City of Rome' encountered a mishap as it approached the maritime locks in IJmuiden. While en route from Amsterdam towards the open sea, the vessel failed to stop in time and collided with the seaward gate of the Northern Lock, creating a breach approximately 3x3 meters in size. It successfully navigated to Wilton Port at the Keppel Verolme Shipyard, where it arrived at 10:15 a.m. for necessary repairs to its damaged bulbous bow. In order to carry out these repairs, the lock gate will likely be removed and drydocked during the upcoming routine maintenance.
