Incident Involving 'Travestern' and 'Havelstern' at Comfort Cove
On June 18, 2017, an allision occurred between the tankers 'Travestern' and 'Havelstern' at Comfort Cove-Newstead Anchorage, situated in northern Newfoundland. At the time of the incident, the 'Havelstern' was securely anchored, while the 'Travestern' was navigating through the area. An unexpected gust of wind caused the stern of the 'Travestern' to swing toward the 'Havelstern', resulting in contact between the two vessels. Fortunately, the allision did not lead to any serious damage or leaks. However, both ships did sustain some damage above the waterline on their sterns. Following the incident, the 'Travestern' proceeded with its journey and successfully arrived at its destination, Lewisporte, on June 19. On May 19, 2017, the tanker 'Travestern' encountered a mechanical failure that led to its grounding at approximately 4 p.m. on Lancaster Bar, located east of Cornwall along the St. Lawrence River. The vessel was on its way from Hamilton to Montreal when it became stuck off the coast of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield in Cazaville.
