Incident Involving 'Travestern' and 'Havelstern' at Comfort Cove

Jun 20, 2017 09:39

On June 18, 2017, an allision occurred between the tankers 'Travestern' and 'Havelstern' at Comfort Cove-Newstead Anchorage, situated in northern Newfoundland. At the time of the incident, the 'Havelstern' was securely anchored, while the 'Travestern' was navigating through the area. An unexpected gust of wind caused the stern of the 'Travestern' to swing toward the 'Havelstern', resulting in contact between the two vessels. Fortunately, the allision did not lead to any serious damage or leaks. However, both ships did sustain some damage above the waterline on their sterns. Following the incident, the 'Travestern' proceeded with its journey and successfully arrived at its destination, Lewisporte, on June 19. At the time of the collision, both tankers were carrying significant loads of diesel and jet fuel.
