Trawler 'Pechora' Rescued After Propulsion Failure Near Fugløya

Mar 14, 2019 09:49

On March 11, 2019, the trawler 'Pechora', weighing 2,552 gross tons, experienced a significant loss of propulsion northeast of Fugløya and urgently requested towing support. The Norwegian lifeboat 'Gjert Wilhelmsen' (MMSI: 258005500) promptly departed from its Sørvær station to assist the stranded vessel. Once on the scene, the lifeboat began towing the 'Pechora' towards safer waters, where the NSSR lifeboat 'Oscar Tybring' (MMSI: 257231500) from Skjervøy took over the towing operations. During the entire mission, the Norwegian Coastguard vessel 'Fram' closely monitored the situation to ensure the safety of both the crew and the vessels involved. The 'Gjert Wilhelmsen' successfully towed the trawler to Tromsø, where it safely docked at 6:30 a.m. Following repairs, the 'Pechora' departed Tromsø again on March 14 around 4 p.m., resuming its journey towards the fishing grounds in the Norwegian Sea.
