In a remarkable display of maritime rescue operations, a Vietnamese naval ship successfully towed the distressed vessel 'Petrolimex 11' to safety on January 2, 2025. With 25 crew members aboard, the vessel encountered engine failure while navigating the waters off Khanh Hoa on January 1, prompting an urgent distress signal from its captain. The 'Petrolimex 11', which was on a journey from Malaysia to Hon Gai Port in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, found itself adrift approximately 20 nautical miles southeast of Cam Ranh Bay. The 918th Flotilla of the 189th Submarine Brigade led the rescue operation. Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Van Thuong, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Brigade, promptly dispatched rescue ship 991 to the scene despite challenging sea conditions, with waves soaring between 6 to 7 meters. Upon arrival, the crew was given initial medical attention, and a towing connection was established with the 'Petrolimex 11'. The naval team successfully pulled the vessel to a safe anchorage near Vinh Tan commune in Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan Province, securing its position at coordinates 11° 18' N 108° 55' E.
