Emergency Rescue Operation at Steenbank Anchorage
On May 13, 2012, at 3 p.m., the KNRM lifeboat 'Koopmansdank' from the Neeltje Jans station was urgently dispatched for a medical evacuation in the North Sea. A crew member from the Philippine-sailed vessel 'Philipp Essberger', anchored approximately 15 miles west of the station at Steenbank, was suffering from severe abdominal pain. After detailed consultations with the Coastguard Centre in Den Helder and the Radio Medical Service, it was determined that the safest course of action was to deploy the lifeboat for the rescue. The 'Koopmansdank' successfully transported the affected sailor to Neeltje Jans, where an ambulance was on standby to take him to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
