In a significant crackdown on fuel smuggling, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized two vessels at the Limay port in Bataan, revealing a staggering 45,000 metric tons (MT) of illicit fuel valued at approximately Php 700 million. The tankers, identified as the 'Alpine Magnolia' and 'Malolos,' were carrying fuel worth an estimated Php 300 million. The operation was initiated when Limay Acting District Collector Julius Premediles acted on reliable intelligence regarding the 'Alpine Magnolia’s' suspicious cargo. Upon investigation by the office of the Deputy Commissioner for Anti-Organized Crime and Intelligence Group (AOCG), discrepancies were found in the Load Port Survey Report (LPSR) that warranted further action. A specialized task force equipped with a Letter of Authority and Mission Order was quickly dispatched to observe the vessels and their crew activities. On the afternoon of December 15, 2016, the tanker 'Malolos' was documented maneuvering adjacent to the 'Alpine Magnolia,' commencing the transfer of fuel without proper customs documentation. This illegal operation occurred without any duties or taxes being paid. Consequently, a Warrant of Seizure and Detention was issued for both vessels and their fuel cargo, highlighting their involvement in smuggling activities. The cargo has been associated with S.L. Harbor Bulk Terminal Corp., and the BOC is preparing to file charges against the Bataan-based company for its role in this operation.
