EU Expands Sanctions, Targeting Additional Vessels and Individuals Supporting Russia

Dec 17, 2024 13:18

On December 16, 2024, the European Union unveiled its latest sanctions package during the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, which now includes 52 additional vessels, notably the 'Premier.' These additions have been identified as key players in aiding Russia's military operations amid the ongoing conflict. The sanctioned vessels are primarily involved in evading the oil price cap set by Western nations, facilitating arms shipments, and transporting pilfered grain. With this action, the total number of vessels under EU sanctions has reached 79, predominantly comprising those engaged in shipping Russian oil and providing military support to Russia. Besides vessels, the new sanctions also encompass 54 individuals and 30 entities linked to enhancing Russia's war capabilities. This group's reach extends to China and North Korea, with several entities and individuals identified as suppliers of dual-use materials essential for military purposes. Specifically, the latest sanctions include two senior officials from North Korea and seven individuals and companies from China. The overarching aim of these sanctions is to escalate operational costs for Russia by denying access to EU ports and restricting maritime services.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Delivers SCF Prime to Sovcomflot amidst Expanding Fleet Plans

Apr 08, 2011 08:47

On April 5, 2011, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, based in South Korea, successfully delivered the 'SCF Prime' to the leading Russian shipping operator, Sovcomflot. This vessel, with a deadweight tonnage of 70,000 DWT, marks the final tanker in a specialized series constructed for SCF at the shipyard. The collaboration doesn't end here, as Hyundai Mipo Dockyard is also working on the 'SCF Progress' tanker, set for delivery in 2012, alongside three additional dry cargo ships named NS Yakutia, NS Ust Luga, and NS Vanino, which are scheduled for delivery in 2013. As one of the top five global tanker companies, SCF Group boasts an impressive fleet of 153 vessels, collectively weighing 11.87 million tons. Furthermore, the company is actively enhancing its capabilities with a newbuilding program that includes 15 ships totaling approximately 1.73 million tons in deadweight. This strategic expansion solidifies SCF's position as one of the most significant players in the maritime industry.
