Grounding of Bulk Carrier Arouzu Disrupts Mississippi River Traffic
On June 12, 2013, the bulk carrier 'Arouzu,' loaded with pig iron, ran aground in the lower Mississippi River at approximately 9:30 a.m., causing significant disruption to maritime traffic for several hours. The vessel, which was en route from Venice, Louisiana, to New Orleans (NOLA), became stranded above the Head of Passes while heading toward LaPlace. Initially, only one-way traffic was permitted in the affected area; however, two-way navigation was restored in the afternoon. Fortunately, there were no reports of pollution or injuries linked to this incident. The situation was managed with the assistance of Blue Water Shipping, which dispatched three tugboats to assist in freeing the vessel.
