Fire Erupts on Rosa Dini at Jurong Port: A Swift Response from Authorities

Jun 14, 2023 13:45

A significant fire incident occurred aboard the tanker 'Rosa Dini' while it was docked at the Jurong Port Tank Terminals in Singapore on June 14, 2023. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) received the emergency alert at approximately 7:30 a.m., as smoke was detected near the front section of the vessel. Responding promptly, members of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, supported by MPA patrol craft and the terminals’ emergency response teams, were dispatched to tackle the flames and ensure navigational safety. Remarkably, the fire was quelled within roughly two hours, with all crew members declared safe and unharmed. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, and the structural integrity of the tanks and berths at Jurong Port Tank Terminals remained intact. As a precautionary step, operations at nearby berths were temporarily halted, and a vessel in the vicinity was relocated to anchorage. Notably, the 'Rosa Dini' had successfully unloaded 18,000 tonnes of gasoline in Indonesia on June 9 before arriving in Singapore on June 11.

Five Suspected Pirates Arrested by Nigeria's State Security Service

Nov 11, 2011 12:24

In a significant operation, Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) announced the arrest of five individuals linked to piracy activities, including a suspected former Naval officer. This operation took place in Lagos and was revealed during a press conference by SSS Deputy Director of Public Relations, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar. The arrests were made following the hijacking of the vessel ROSA TOMASOS, which was en route to Lagos loaded with a hefty 26,000 tonnes of fuel. The incident occurred on November 3 when the vessel was seized while traveling from the Niger Delta. Thanks to the swift action of the SSS, the vessel and its precious cargo were successfully recovered on November 6, while the arrested suspects, part of an infamous pirate gang, are now facing legal repercussions.
