In a significant move to optimize its fleet, Scorpio Tankers has finalized a sale and leaseback agreement involving several of its key MR and LR tankers, transferring ownership to AVIC Leasing. The vessels included in this transaction are the 'STI Fontvieille,' built in 2013 by Hyundai Mipo (IMO 50), the 'STI Brooklyn,' launched in 2015 at SPP (IMO 49), the 'STI Rose,' constructed in 2015 at Daehan (IMO 109), and the 'STI Rambla,' which joined the fleet in 2017 from Sungdong (IMO 109). Under the terms of the deal, Scorpio will enter a bareboat charter-in arrangement for these vessels, lasting for an 8-year period, with options to purchase starting after the conclusion of the second year.

Scorpio Tankers Inc. has entered into strategic sale and leaseback arrangements involving five of its product tankers. On July 17, 2016, the U.S. Coast Guard executed a swift medical evacuation of a 44-year-old male crew member from the oil tanker 'STI Fontvielle,' located roughly 60 nautical miles from San Francisco. The incident was reported early on July 16 at 3:50 a.m. by the crew of the 'STI Fontvielle,' who alerted Coast Guard watchstanders at the 11th District Command Center that the crew member had sustained a hand laceration. Although first aid was administered on board, a duty flight surgeon advised that he required further medical attention from a hand specialist at a hospital. At the time of the call, the 'STI Fontvielle' was positioned over 610 nautical miles west of San Francisco but promptly altered its course to rendezvous with the rescue team about 60 nautical miles offshore. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco took off at 2:12 p.m. and reached the vessel, successfully hoisting the injured man around 2:55 p.m. Following the rescue, the helicopter returned to the air station, where the patient was handed over to San Francisco Fire Department personnel and transported to San Francisco General Hospital for further medical care.
