Signal Cheetah Grounds in Suez Canal Due to Rudder Failure
On October 26, 2018, at approximately 1 p.m., the tanker 'Signal Cheetah' experienced a sudden rudder malfunction while navigating through the Suez Canal, specifically at the 101 km mark during a southbound convoy. The vessel inadvertently ran aground against the eastern bank, causing damage to its hull. Fortunately, the double-hulled design of the ship allowed it to continue its journey. After the incident, the 'Signal Cheetah' was assisted by two tugboats and successfully resumed transit, aiming to exit the canal around 5:30 p.m. Following the grounding, the tanker was anchored at the Suez South Anchorage, located at coordinates 29° 42.16' N and 032° 35.26' E. The ship was on a route from Constanta to Singapore at the time of the incident.
