On July 14, 2019, the Corfu Port Authority received a distress call from the captain of the 'Saranda Express,' which was making its voyage from Saints Albania to Corfu with 27 passengers and two vehicles on board. The vessel experienced a significant issue with its starboard side main engine and urgently required towing assistance. Responding swiftly, two patrol boats, a lifeboat, and the vessel 'Dias' were dispatched to the scene. Shortly after, the captain reported that the crew had successfully addressed the engine trouble, allowing the 'Saranda Express' to continue its journey to Corfu. Upon arrival, the ship underwent a thorough inspection conducted by a Port State Control inspector, a representative from the Local Ship Surveillance Agency, and the Port Authority. The vessel was detained until comprehensive repairs were made and a class certificate from the classification society was secured. The 'Saranda Express' was able to resume its service on July 16, reflecting the efficient coordination of emergency protocols.
