On the afternoon of September 1, 2016, a fire ignited in the engine room of the cruise ship 'Seadream I' while it was navigating approximately 40 miles off the coast of Palinuro, south of Naples in the scenic Tyrrhenian Sea. Aboard the vessel were 105 passengers along with a crew of 61, all of whom were subsequently affected by the incident. Initially, the ship was steered towards Amalfi for assistance. However, the fire caused a failure in the vessel's propulsion system, rendering it immobilized and leaving it with minimal electrical power. As a result, tugs from Naples were dispatched to tow the ship to Port Partenopeo, where it was anticipated to arrive the following afternoon on September 2. Remarkably, no injuries were reported during the incident. The Italian Coast Guard acted swiftly, diverting nearby merchant vessels and deploying two aircraft along with five patrol boats to the scene.
