Suez Canal Traffic Disruption Caused by 'Rumford' Engine Issues

Apr 06, 2021 13:06

On April 6, 2021, at 8:23 a.m., maritime traffic in the Suez Canal faced significant delays due to the 'Rumford' experiencing engine complications while navigating the southern section of the crucial waterway. The Suez Canal Authority promptly informed shipping companies regarding the situation, detailing that the vessel was stuck during its northbound journey and required assistance. To expedite the resolution, the authorities dispatched the tugs 'Tim Hope' and 'Mosaed 3' to help navigate the situation. By 9:29 a.m. UTC, the 'Rumford' successfully restarted its engines, marking a turning point in the incident. At 10:03 a.m., the vessel regained a speed of 7.7 knots, allowing it to continue its journey towards Sidi Kerir, with an expected arrival date of April 7. Concurrently, six other vessels, which had been delayed while waiting behind the affected tanker, also resumed their voyages by the same time.

Tanker Maria Bottiglieri Successfully Berths in Antwerp After Grounding Incident

Oct 29, 2017 15:49

The tanker Maria Bottiglieri has safely docked at the ATPC Antwerp Terminal on October 27, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. after encountering navigation troubles. On the afternoon of October 26, at 2:15 p.m., the vessel veered off course near Hoofdplaat and subsequently ran aground on the Wester Scheldt, just off Borssele. Fortunately, the fully loaded tanker was successfully refloated at 3:20 p.m. by tugs including Multratug 3, Multratug 9, Union 4, Union Ruby, and Patrol, aided by the rising tide. A security perimeter was established by the patrol boat P 41 during the operations. Thankfully, there were no reported damages to the tanker, nor any environmental threats resulting from the grounding. The cause of this navigational mishap remains under investigation. Following its unloading of Nafta cargo, originating from Port Neches, the Maria Bottiglieri departed Antwerp on October 31 at 12:30 p.m. en route to Ust-Luga, with an estimated arrival on November 5.

Aframax Tanker MARIA BOTTIGLIERI Grounds on Western Scheldt Near Vlissingen

Oct 27, 2017 13:18

In a recent maritime incident, the Aframax tanker MARIA BOTTIGLIERI ran aground on the Western Scheldt, close to Vlissingen, Netherlands. The grounding occurred at approximately 1300 UTC on October 26, while the vessel was navigating upstream en route from the United States to the Port of Antwerp. The fully loaded tanker was successfully refloated about an hour and a half later, thanks to the assistance of at least three tugboats. By 1330 UTC, MARIA BOTTIGLIERI resumed its upstream journey, albeit at a reduced speed of around 4 knots. However, by 1415 UTC, the tanker came to a halt, flanked by tugs, suggesting it was in the process of anchoring. It is likely the vessel will be anchored for a thorough survey and investigation. Preliminary AIS tracking data prior to the grounding indicates the tanker may have experienced a mechanical failure or loss of control during its voyage.
