Libya Set to Unveil Major Oil Production Boost This Week
Libya is on the verge of a significant oil production revival this week, with plans to reopen two of its largest oil fields and ship its first cargo from the nation’s biggest export terminal in two years. Amid ongoing challenges as a war-torn member of OPEC, Libya is determined to nearly double its crude output in 2017. According to Mansur Abdullah, the oil movement manager at the refinery, the Sharara oil field, operated by Repsol SA, and the El Feel (or Elephant) field, managed by Eni SpA, are gearing up to commence crude flows to the Zawiya refinery and the Mellitah energy complex after pipelines were successfully reopened on Wednesday. These two western oil fields, which have been offline for over 18 months, boast a combined output capacity exceeding 450,000 barrels per day. On the shipping front, the tanker Seamusic is expected to dock at the Es Sider port on Friday for the historic task of loading the first crude shipment from the terminal since 2014. Adnan Omran, the general manager of Al Omran International Maritime Agencies, revealed that the vessel is slated to carry 630,000 barrels of Es Sider crude, although the destination for this cargo remains unconfirmed, raising questions about the port's future export activities.
