In the early hours of July 7, 2022, a maritime incident occurred off the coast of Karystos island involving two vessels. The tanker 'Amelia' (IMO: 9308778), transporting 3,000 metric tonnes of gas oil from Istanbul with a crew of 24, collided with the 'Tanab', which was on its way from Aliaga to Varna with 16 crew members aboard. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or water pollution resulting from the collision. Following the incident, both vessels proceeded under their own power to the Karystos anchorage, where they remained under the watchful eye of the Greek Coast Guard as investigations and repairs took place. As of July 8, the 'Amelia' was moored at coordinates 37° 58.99' N, 024° 26.02' E, while the 'Tanab' was anchored nearby at 37° 59.07' N, 024° 25.24' E, awaiting further assessments and class inspections.
