U.S. Forces Disable Tankers 'Sea Star III' and 'Sevda' in Gulf of Oman
On May 8, 2026, in a strategic operation within the Gulf of Oman, American forces successfully disabled two tankers, identified as the 'Sea Star III' and 'Sevda', for allegedly breaching the ongoing naval blockade imposed on Iran. The interception occurred before the vessels could reach Iranian ports, with both ships located east of Bandar e-Jask, at coordinates 25.62448, 57.93673. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), targeted precision strikes were executed on the smokestacks of the ships to prevent them from advancing. Notably, the 'Sea Star III' was accompanied by a tugboat, while the 'Sevda' was reportedly engulfed in flames during the incident.
ISOICO to Undertake Repairs on Attack-Damaged 'Sabiti' Tanker
The Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Co (ISOICO) has announced plans to repair the 'Sabiti', a tanker that sustained significant damage after an attack in the Red Sea on October 11. ISOICO's managing director confirmed on October 21 that the company would cover part of the repair expenses. The 'Sabiti' experienced two explosions on its starboard side, inflicting severe damage to its main tanks and resulting in gaping holes between 50 to 150 centimeters. This incident has unfortunately led to oil leakage into the Red Sea. The tanker is expected to reach Charag Island in two days for unloading, after which it will be transported to Bandar Abbas for the necessary repairs.
Sabiti Oil Tanker Under Missile Attack: No Regional Rescue Response
In a troubling incident, the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) disclosed that no regional maritime authorities offered assistance to the Iranian oil tanker MT Sabiti when it was targeted by missile attacks off the Saudi Arabian coast in the Red Sea. This revelation, shared via the PMO's official channels, highlights a significant failure to respond to emergency calls that contradicts established international maritime customs and humanitarian obligations. On October 11, 2019, while en route to the Mediterranean Sea and situated approximately 60 miles from the Saudi coastline and Jeddah Port, MT Sabiti came under attack around 01:30 and 01:50 GMT, likely from two missiles. The assault resulted in damage to two of the ship's tanks, leading to a spill of crude oil and causing the vessel to list to the starboard side. From 05:11 to 07:20 GMT, the troubled tanker sent out 16 distress signals utilizing various communication methods, including MF, HF, SAT-C, and VHF channels. Unfortunately, these alerts went unanswered by surrounding maritime rescue coordination centers (MRCCs). At 08:20 GMT, the crew resorted to emailing MRCCs from Jeddah Port, Egypt, and Sudan to notify them of the missile impact and request urgent assistance due to the ship's compromised condition and oil spill. Even after the Iranian MRCC in Bandar Abbas informed MRCC Jeddah of the situation by phone at 05:50 GMT, this communication was met with skepticism. The Saudi authorities dismissed the alarms as exaggerated claims from the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), asserting they would investigate. By 07:30 GMT, MRCC Jeddah still showed no awareness of the emergency. At 10:00 GMT, two aircraft were dispatched from a nearby naval vessel to assess the situation but returned without providing the necessary assistance. Throughout this ordeal, both the distressed tanker and MRCC Bandar Abbas continually attempted to communicate the dire situation to MRCC Jeddah per international regulations. However, despite clear indications of the vessel's need for help, regional response measures were alarmingly absent. The PMO regards this lack of action as a violation of maritime norms and humanitarian standards, raising serious concerns about the reliability of regional maritime safety protocols.
