On December 27, 2023, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) swiftly executed a medical evacuation (medevac) for a 52-year-old crew member aboard the 'Ivory Bay.' The vessel was stationed approximately 9.5 nautical miles from the shores of New Mangalore Port when the distress call was made. The incident transpired at 12:05 p.m. after the crew member experienced a severe injury stemming from a fall in the washroom, linked to unexplained weakness. In response, the ICG deployed the interceptor boat 'C 448,' which was equipped with a medical officer to ensure safe transport of the unconscious patient. The crew member was subsequently transferred to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
