On August 16, 2019, the luxury cruise vessel 'Silver Wind' faced challenges when inclement weather prevented its scheduled docking at Galway, leaving nearly 300 passengers unable to disembark. The adverse conditions made tendering operations impossible, prompting the ship to find shelter before continuing its journey. The 'Silver Wind' ultimately redirected to Londonderry, where it successfully docked on August 17 at 10:50 a.m.

In a landmark move, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) has successfully finalized its acquisition of a two-thirds interest in the esteemed luxury and expedition cruise operator, Silversea Cruises. This significant development followed the green light from regulatory authorities and was initially announced back in June. The transaction saw RCL securing a 66.7% stake in Silversea for approximately US$2 billion, with an overall enterprise valuation hovering around the same figure. Manfredi Lefebvre D'Ovidio, the owner of Silversea, will maintain his presence within the company by holding on to the remaining 33.3% of shares and continuing his vital role as executive chairman.

Silversea Cruises is set to embark on a comprehensive refurbishment of its vessels, Silver Wind and Silver Whisper, in December 2017. This initiative is part of the cruise line's extensive fleet-wide enhancement program that kicked off at the end of 2016. The renovation of Silver Whisper will not only focus on technical upgrades but will also feature a major redesign of its public spaces. These improvements will draw inspiration from the elegant décor of Silversea’s latest flagship, Silver Muse. Guests can expect fresh carpeting and enhanced aesthetics in key areas like La Terrazza as well as the Observation and Panorama lounges. Silver Wind will undergo a similar transformation, with design elements inspired by the luxurious Silver Muse as well. Noteworthy upgrades will include new carpeting and reupholstered seating in the casino, as well as revamped flooring in the spa and beauty salon. This refurbishment is poised to elevate the cruising experience for all guests aboard these iconic ships.
