On December 29, 2018, the tanker 'White Shark' experienced a serious work-related accident in the South China Sea, near the coast of South Vietnam. The crew's urgent situation prompted the vessel to alter its course towards Vietnam, where it sought immediate medical assistance for four injured crew members. Among them, one individual sustained critical injuries, including broken leg bones, fractured ribs, head injuries, and severe bleeding. In response to the emergency, a Vietnamese Search and Rescue (SAR) ship was dispatched to evacuate the injured crew—identified as Ritche Magbanua, Joseph Villacastin, Rodolfo Castro, and Clyde Josef Boilosa. The medevac operation ensured that the crew members received timely medical care, as they were transported to a medical facility in Nha Trang early on the morning of December 30. The 'White Shark' was on its way from Malaysia’s Kertih Oil Terminal at the time of the incident. All affected crew members are of Filipino nationality, highlighting the risks faced by maritime workers in the region.
