The coordinates of the event were recorded at 29° 34' N 048° 51' E, approximately 30 nautical miles southeast of the coast of Kuwait. At around 1:20 a.m. local time, an unidentified small vessel approached the ship's port side, shortly before a loud explosion was reported.
