The Songa-Jade: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On December 12, 2021, a significant medical evacuation operation unfolded off the coast of the Isle of Wight when a crew member aboard the tanker 'Songa Jade' suffered a dislocated shoulder while anchored at St. Helens Roads. The Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat sprang into action shortly after receiving a call for assistance from the Solent Coastguard, launching the All Weather Lifeboat at 6:40 p.m. The swift response by the volunteer crew allowed them to quickly reach the vessel, but the evacuation process was complicated by the necessity of using a boarding ladder. To ensure the safe transfer of the injured crew member, the lifeboat team took the time to set up a block and tackle system. By around 7:35 p.m., the casualty was safely aboard the 'Alfred Albert Williams.' The lifeboat then proceeded to Portsmouth Camber, where they awaited the South Central Ambulance Service to arrive. After a prolonged wait, it was decided that the casualty could be handed over to the Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, allowing the lifeboat crew to return to Bembridge. The 'Alfred Albert Williams' departed from the Camber at 8:40 p.m. and successfully arrived back at the boathouse in Lane End by 9 p.m.
