At around 3:20 PM, the captain reported to the Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England that the vessel was adrift and in need of assistance. To ensure the safety of the 191 passengers and 160 crew members onboard, Coast Guard units swiftly surrounded the ship. Fortunately, the crew skillfully anchored the 'Star Pride' outside of the shipping channel, and power was successfully restored by 4:40 PM. In compliance with safety protocols, the Coast Guard mandated a thorough inspection of the vessel before it could resume its voyage to Manhattan. Following the restoration of power and fueled by a tug escort, the 'Star Pride' finally made its way to Newport, where it docked at 5:30 AM on September 8 to await the inspection.
