North Sea Collision: 'Stavfjord' and 'Helena Elisabeth - TX29' Incident
On the morning of November 24, 2015, a maritime incident occurred in the North Sea, approximately 90 kilometers northwest of Texel. The tanker 'Stavfjord' collided with the fishing vessel 'Helena Elisabeth - TX29', which was actively fishing in a designated traffic lane at the time. Local authorities, specifically the water police in Den Helder, launched an investigation to determine the specifics surrounding the crash. The fishing vessel sustained significant damage, particularly to its beam, starboard side bow, and fishing gear, prompting it to divert to Den Helder for crucial repairs. The 'Helena Elisabeth' successfully docked on November 25 at 11:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the 'Stavfjord', which was en route from Terneuzen to Gothenburg carrying no cargo, was able to continue its journey and reached its destination port by 2:15 a.m. on November 26. Preliminary assessments indicated that an unexpected course alteration by the 'Stavfjord' may have contributed to this unfortunate incident. Tanker Stavjord Runs Aground Off Flushing
On the evening of October 24, 2014, at 8:20 PM, the tanker Stavjord, loaded with a cargo of naphtha, ran aground in the Sardijn fairway between Boulevard Bankert and Boulevard De Ruyter, off the coast of Flushing. The vessel, which was coming from Botlek in Rotterdam and heading towards Dow in Terneuzen, initially struggled to free itself. Despite attempts by tugs, the salvage efforts were unsuccessful by 9:40 PM, prompting the decision to wait for high tide to assist in freeing the ship. Miraculously, at 10:20 PM, the Stavjord managed to dislodge itself without external help. Following this incident, the vessel resumed its journey to Terneuzen on October 25, before continuing towards Scheveningen in the early hours of October 26.
